Skin renewal varies through age. Skin is the largest organ in our body and we shed skin cells like we shed hairs daily. Just like hair, our skin regenerates and regrowth everyday. As we grow older, our skin’s renewal speed degenerates slowly. Unfortunately.
For a simple regeneration cycle, our skin takes around 28 days to renew. Therefore, that’s a general rule of thumb for acne scars to fade.
Our skin tends to build up of dead skin cells as it regenerates. So the ‘old’ cells gets pushed out while the new ones are born. If you don’t exfoliate frequent enough the old cells may leave our skin looking rather dull, dry and flaky.
To give you an idea of skin renewal for different age group:
- Babies takes 14 days
- Kids / Teenagers takes 28 days
- From 20s – 40s, takes between 28-42 days
- For 50+, may take up to 84 days
The above should give you an idea on how frequent that you should be exfoliating your skin to help to clear up the buildups. By exfoliating, your products will be able to penetrate deeper and do better.
Your age group should also determine how long should you trial a product before giving them verdict. In general, 28 days should be sufficient.
