This is one interesting finding across the internet. Why do we think it’s incorrect and one of the worst myths? You hear them. Everything you put on your skin, ends up in your bloodstream. Well, if that’s true, we would end up with inflated bags of water every time we shower, right?
The reality is that between 0% – 100% of what you apply to your skin can end up in your bloodstream. You just can’t put a definite figure on this.
In general, it truly depends on your cosmetic product’s ingredients, the delivery mechanism and your overall health of your skin condition plus the environment. Carrier oils generally won’t go further than your epidermis and essential oils can penetrate through inhalation.
Myth 2 – Mineral Oil stops the skin from breathing
Mineral oil contains large molecules. Well, the skin actually doesn’t really breath. A lot of carrier oils create an occlusive layer on the skin however, most of the oils can be metabolised by your body easily. They also contains lovely compounds that benefit your skin.
Myth 3 – all preservatives are dangerous
Preservatives are very important in formulating skincare and only certain preservatives are known to irritate skins. They stop bacteria, fungi and yeast from growing in your skincare. If any of this microbes came into contact of your skin, it can cause serious infections.
