What is Gluconolactone?

is found naturally in the skin and provides antiaging and gentle exfoliating benefits without sun sensitivity. Sensitive skin types as well as those who have had recent superficial cosmetic procedures will find comfort in this molecule’s gentle nature. Gluconolactone strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier leaving it more resilient, while also providing potent antioxidant benefits. Gluconolactone is a welcome choice for sensitive skin types or following recent superficial cosmetic procedures where the skin can be more sensitive.

Gluconolactone is kind of an acid, even though you would probably not guess it from its name. It’s a PHA, or polyhydroxy acid. PHAs are close relatives to the famous AHAs, both in terms of similar chemical structure and similar effects on the skin.

What other benefits?
  • Though mild in nature it acts as an anti-bacterial and is helpful in treating acne
  • Increase the turnover of cells present in the skin. Its functioning is similar to alpha hydroxy acids that are very similar to glycolic acid.
  • It also neutralizes free radicals that are the causes of premature skin aging as it also has properties of an anti-oxidant.
  • It improves protection from the harmful ultra-violent [UV] rays by fifty per cent. Therefore, it also gives the skin protection from the sun.
  • Since Gluconolactone is a chelating ingredient, it makes skin care products work better as it removes metallic elements that contaminate skin.
How to use?

Start by using product only three times a week to avoid irritation. Then, gradually increase your frequency to once a day and / or twice a day. A little tingling is normal. If still too intense, dilute the product with a few drops of water or layer a hydrating mist underneath to cut the intensity.

How to use with other exfoliation products and VIT A or C?

WHO SHOULD USE IT: In general, it’s good for all skin types, particularly those with sensitive or mature skin who can’t tolerate the irritation that can come from AHAs and BHAs. To avoid unnecessary irritation, especially in the initial phase of toner application, we do not recommend the use of vitamin A and C or any other exfoliation products on the face when using our product containing Gluconolactone.

WORKS WELL WITH: Tried and true skincare staples—namely, vitamin C, retinoids, and alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids—as part of an overall anti-aging regimen. While gluconolactone does work synergistically with other acids and retinoids, we recommend separating them if your skin is sensitive.

HOW OFTEN CAN YOU USE IT: If you’re not using any other chemical exfoliants in your routine, it’s gentle enough for daily use. Otherwise, use it a few times per week. Once your skin has build up the tolerance and you find you can tolerate with combination of other exfoliation products or Vitamin products, then proceed to increase your frequency to once a day and / or twice a day. Tingling or warm sensation is normal due to the mixing of products, however if you experience burn, please stop mixing the products altogether and use them on separate days.

DON’T USE WITH: It plays nice with most other ingredients, although you do want to be cautious about over-exfoliation when it’s used in tandem with other acids or exfoliants such as retinoids.

Is it suitable for Sensitive Skin?

In general, it’s good for all skin types, particularly those with sensitive or mature skin who can’t tolerate the irritation that can come from AHAs and BHAs counterpart.

If applying directly is too intense, try diluting the product with a few drops of cream or layer a hydrating oil underneath to cut the intensity.

Tingling sensation and redness are usually normal for sensitive prone skin due to the exfoliation property. However, if you are experiencing a prolong (more than 45minutes) slight burning and inflamed sensation, please wash your face and stop using them.

Though as with any topical acid, you want to be extra cautious if you have a condition where the skin is compromised, such as rosacea or atopic dermatitis. And yes, because it is still an acid, redness and dryness are always possible.

Is it safe to be use during pregnancy?

Pregnant and lactating women should consult a physician before utilising products that contain any ingredient, as should those with allergies or sensitivities, or anyone currently using prescription drug.

Unfortunately, as this is based on individual's condition, we are not able to comment further.
